The charming waterfront town of Port Townsend, Washington will never be quite the same for Kristen and Andy Guild who got married on the beautiful historic grounds of Fort Worden on Saturday June 11th, 2016.
Outdoor weddings in June on the Olympic Peninsula, or anywhere in Western Washington for that matter, can keep one guessing about the weather. As the big day was approaching, Bella and I kept glued to our weather apps on our phones and things were changing every five minutes but mostly in favor of overcast-to-partial sun....we'll take it!!
But come rain or shine, these two love birds were getting married regardless, surrounded by family, friends and music, in an absolutely awesome and photo-rich environment. (For those of you reading this blog who have never heard of Fort Worden, it was where the movie An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed in 1982 starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger)
Kristen and her bridesmaids got ready for the day in Alexander's Castle. That's right, a genuine Scottish-influenced castle tower that was built out of love for a special woman at the turn of the century. It was here that our special beauty, Kristen, had her hair & make-up done. We also shot the dress and accessories upstairs in the honeymoon suite. The view from the room looks down to the ceremony site named Bliss Vista......totally appropriate.
Meanwhile Andy and his league of distinguished gentlemen got ready over at one the immaculately restored officer's houses. I really enjoyed shooting the guys. They were good sports and open to some creative shots. The scotch and cigars probably helped!
We decided to shoot The Reveal right outside of the castle and this is always a favorite segment for Bella and I because it's such an intimate, honest, raw moment for the bride & groom. Kristen looked absolutely stunning....Andy didn't stand a chance.
We then herded the wedding party to the front of an artillery bunker and had a blast (pun totally intended) shooting their cast and crew. The bunker backdrop was so cool with it's big iron doors and painted concrete.
Since Kristen grew up boating with her family, a nautical theme was prevalent throughout the wedding day and so we made a trip down to the beach for some creative portrait shots. I'm at a loss for words when it comes to describing the shots we got of Kristen & Andy, so i'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
The ceremony was held on the bluffs overlooking the Sound and you couldn't ask for a more picturesque backdrop.
The reception was held in the Commons building and started with a cocktail hour on the outside patio. Heartfelt toasts were made and a great comedic song was performed by one of Andy's good friends. Moving inside for a delicious dinner, more toasts and a fun video were enjoyed. The pinnacle moment came when Andy performed a much-anticipated song that he wrote. Sitting in front of Kristen, and 200 of their closest friends, Andy played his guitar and sang an original song that took us on a journey of how they met, their first date, and more that lead up to the wedding day. It was hilarious, revealing, tender and vulnerable and Andy, who has a great voice, delivered a performance that left tears in everyones eyes and a smile in their hearts...Oh yeah, and Kristen loved it too!
It was an honor to capture their day and all the craziness and fun that goes with it. Thank you Kristen & Andy. We love you guys!
